I am a very visual person. For me, like many, an image conveys a much more complex, powerful and memorable message when compared to text alone. You have probably noticed that your Facebook posts that contain a photo or graphic are exponentially more popular than those sharing simple links or written messages alone.
Many of you are already using this knowledge properly when you are sharing content on your online and social media sites. But how are you driving your customers to your online platforms?
While I normally focus on helping you to improve your online content, in this blog I'd like to show you how to create some great images not only for sharing on social media, but also printing and displaying in your clinic. Hopefully, these visual reminders in your clinic will encourage your clients to check out your social media platforms and websites, and become loyal followers even after they leave the clinic!
Many clinics have some sort of signage at the front desk or in the exam room to alert clients to visit the practice's website or social media channels. In the past, I've used Canva or other design software to create a simple poster from scratch. If you're short on time or get stuck on how to design one, though, Placeit is a simple and largely free tool to create great images for your clinic! I'll show you how you can use this website to create images like these:
Simply put, Placeit helps you create "fancy iPhone mockups and demo videos." In truth, it allows you to create images on virtually every tech device out there- from iphones and Android devices to laptops, desktops and TVs. Using screenshots of your clinic's website, Facebook/social media pages or apps, Placeit allows you to choose from a variety of backgrounds and layouts. The best part? The small file size version is FREE! Perfect for printing small exam room posters and sharing on social media.
To get started, visit www.placeit.net. From the lower left toolbar, filter the available layouts based on the device type you'd like to share and/or the background theme you'd like to use- they even have one for pets! There are actually thousands of options for devices, themes, still images and video, but for the purpose of this blog we'll stick to still images with the "pet" theme.
Select the background you'd like to use. At the top of the image, you can choose to upload your own image, or grab a screenshot directly from your website on social media addresses. In this example, I selected the "Grab screenshot" option from my Facebook web address at www.facebook.com/thesocialdvm.
Two things to remember. 1: The screenshot from URL will pull the most recent content. So if what comes up at the top of your Facebook profile is a clearly dated image or cover photo, you might want to consider updating your profile before creating this. 2: if you're using a "mobile" device like the iPhone in this layout, the screenshot grab will be of the MOBILE view of your website or other URL. If your website isn't optimized for this, you may again want to reconsider or upload your own screenshot of your full website content, for example.
Next, you can add text and effects if you want, or leave it as it is! Before you can edit the image, it will prompt you to download the non-edited version first. You can choose the free small download, and then move along to adding text and Instagram-like filters under the "effects" tab as you see fit. Click "Apply" to your edits, and then you will have an option to hit "Save" in the upper right hand corner. Doing so will automatically download your new image!
Should you need a higher resolution image, for larger printing products, a "high" resolution (1920 x 1440 px) image is $8 to download and a "super high" resolution image (3300 x 2475 px) is $28. So far, I've used these small, free image (400 x 300 px) numerous times on social media and printed in sizes under 8x10 without any compromise in quality. However, it's nice to have an affordable option should you want to print something larger.
Now you're all set to create some awesome new exam and reception room signs! You can also use these images on your website or social media channels to:
Best of luck and happy creating!
